Sir,

Last time I was in Perry, Iowa was on May 7, 1949 when attended the Iowa Music Contest   with West High School, Waterloo Iowa.  Groups met in every location, schools, churches, and halls and music judges came from several states, Iowa, Mo, Ill, Wis,Ohio, Neb, a total of 16 judges mostly from college music departments. It was a big day for your little town  as some 85 schools were represented.  Even we were given a list of places to eat.  Our group in Drum  Ensembles met at the Christian Church, with judge, George Wilson, Univ of Mo, Columbia MO, Brass and Precussion. We took 1st place against 19 schools..  The memories for this young man of 83 years is one of the high lights of high school, so thought I would thank you and Perry, Iowa.   Now am an Iowa transplant to Dixon, California,  west of Sacramento on my farm with a John Deere tractor...... a little bit of Iowa.    Len Granger
