Ron McClain, 81, of Ottumwa, formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

He was born Jan. 26, 1932, in Waterloo, son of Walter W. and Myrtle Huffman McClain. He married Phyllis Rodemeyer on Sept. 5, 1957, and they later divorced. He married Janet Miller Baldridge on July 8, 1989, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

A 1950 graduate of Waterloo West High School, Mr. McClain served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He received his bachelor's degree from Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa) in 1959. He taught in high school and junior high at Terril, Forest City and Vinton. He received his master's degree from Kirksville and served as junior high and middle school principal at the Cardinal Community Schools for 18 years. He also worked four years as a teacher for Indian Hills Adult Learning Center, retiring in 2002. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

Survived by: his wife; a son, Daniel (Sherry) of Des Moines; two daughters, Sandra McClain of Des Moines and Laurel Ramsey of Gatlinburg, Tenn.; two stepdaughters, Teresa (Dave) Klyn of Ottumwa and Denise Baldridge of Lenexa, Kan.; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; five stepgrandchildren; four sisters, Garnet Eggleston of El Monte, Calif., Flavelle (Jim) Woodyard of Evansdale, Jane (Ken) Kellhofer of Tavares, Fla., and Linda Hill of Lakewood, Wash.; and a brother, Donald (Janet) of Iowa City.

Preceded in death by: two sisters, Phyllis Shephard and Mardell Ostrander.

Kenneth MacDonald

February 3, 1932--April 20, 2017

Kenneth “Kenny” Harrison MacDonald, 85, of Waterloo, died at UnityPoint Health ? Allen Hospital on Thursday, April 20, 2017. 

Kenny was born on February 3, 1932 in Waterloo, son of Harry and Ada Elizabeth (Wood) MacDonald. 

He graduated from the Iowa School of the Deaf in Council Bluffs in 1948 and then from Waterloo West High School in 1950. 

Kenny married Carol Joyce Englehorn on June 23, 1957 in Lansing, Iowa. 

He worked for Morris Printing, and then he was a printer for John Deere for 30 years before retiring on June 30, 1986. 

Kenny was a member of Hagerman Baptist Church, UAW 838, Cedarloo Association of the Deaf, and the Iowa Association of the Deaf. 

Kenny had a heart of gold and was always helping others before himself. He loved tinkering with radios, TVs, and record players, as well as tele-type devices. While he was working on his projects, Ken and Curtis were his ears. He never threw anything away. Kenny enjoyed eating at Village Inn and going to Hy-Vee for breakfast. 

He is survived by: his wife, Carol MacDonald of Waterloo; two sons: Kevin (Carmen) MacDonald of Waterloo and Curtis MacDonald of Brookfield, WI; and many nieces and nephews. 

Kenny was preceded in death by: three sisters: Ivy Janet MacDonald in infancy, Francis Dickson, and Grace Neil. 

There were funeral services for him at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo, Iowa on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 10:30 a.m.  Interment followed the funeral services at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo, Iowa.
