Ronald Corwin

Obituary Condolences
Our wonderful father, Ronald "Ron" Corwin, died at home on June 29, after celebrating is 83rd birthday June 14 and his 62nd wedding anniversary June 20. Born in Waterloo, Iowa, Dad met his future wife, Bonnie Titus, in the seventh grade. After receiving his B.A. from Iowa State Teachers College, he served in the military in Japan.
Ronald obtained his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in sociology from the University of Minnesota and had a distinguished 33-year career as Professor of Sociology at Ohio State University. He authored or co-authored 100 publications, including 14 books, 25 contributed chapters, and 29 papers published in professional journals. He wrote 19 research reports and edited eight books. His widely cited work appears in the American Sociological Review, American Journal of Sociology, Social Forces, Administrative Science Quarterly, Sociology or Education, Contemporary Sociology, Phi Delta Kappan, Teachers College Record, Educational Leadership, and Theory Into Practice.
Colleagues voted him one of the five individuals making the greatest contributions to the growth and development of the Sociology of Education. He was voted as a top contributor to the field of Educational Administration. He was former vice-president of the American Educational Research Association. He held elected positions in the American Sociological Association and served as Associated Editor of the journal Sociology of Education. He taught at Teachers College, Columbia University, and served as Director of Basic Research in the U.S. Department of Education, consulting with Ted Kennedy. After early retirement from OSU in 1994, he was hired as Research Administrator at WestEd in Los Alamitos, Calif.
After retiring again, Ron returned to his first love: singing. He was M.C. and vocalist for the "Satin Doll Dancers." He wrote two musicals and performed with Bonnie as "Two Singular Sensations" throughout Southern California. He performed in local charity shows.
Dad was multi-talented, and leaves a legacy of great and varied accomplishments, integrity and strengths. He was dedicated to his family, friends and colleagues. Dad remained humble and is an exemplar of a well-lived journey. After death, his dedication in educating others will continue as he donated his body to Science Care for research and educational purposes.
Ron is survived by his wife, Bonnie, children Cheryl Corwin, Marci Martel, and Blair Corwin and grandchildren, Ryan, Katie, Haley, Christian, and Allison.
We love you Dad! Marci and Cheri.
